Longtime Atlanta gallerist Shawn Vinson is set to unveil The Sun ATL, a dynamic new art space located at 399 Edgewood Avenue, just a block from The King Center. Debuting during the MLK Holiday weekend, January 17-20, 2025, The Sun ATL combines the elegance of an art gallery, the historical depth of a museum, and the versatility of a premier meeting and event space. In collaboration with One Contemporary Gallery, located next door at 395 Edgewood, the venue will host four days of festivities beginning with a public grand opening reception on Friday, January 17, from 5 to 8 pm.
The Sun ATL's inaugural exhibition, "First Light", features over one hundred original works by sixteen local and international artists, creating a unique dialogue between established and emerging talents. Highlights include paintings by the late Purvis Young, a highly influential self-taught Southern Black Artist; photographs by Jim Alexander documenting Black music and culture; paintings and charcoals by British-born, Atlanta-based painter Ruth Franklin; large-scale works by SCAD graduate student Raphael Bahindwa, a native of the Congo; and text-based paintings by American Outsider Artist Harry Underwood.
Free street parking on Jackson, Chamberlain and Fitzgerald.
Paid parking on Edgewood and in the visitors lot at The King Center.
