1955 | Chuck Stewart Portrait Studio, New York City

ARTIST CONTEXT

Singer, actress, dancer, and activist Eartha Kitt became internationally known for her distinctive voice, magnetic stage presence, and fearless independence. Her career moved fluidly between cabaret, theater, film, television, and popular music.

CHUCK STEWART / PHOTOGRAPH CONTEXT

A frequent subject for Stewart’s camera, Eartha Kitt visited his newly acquired New York studio during the period surrounding the RCA Victor album Down to Eartha. This was one of many special moments captured between the two.
