Purvis Young was an American artist of Bahamian descent. Young's art was often a blend of painting and drawing with collaged elements utilizing everyday found materials.
Young was an autodidact and acquired a vast treasure trove of resources for inspiration - documentaries, art books, American history and spiritual folklore were creative touchstones. His expansive vernacular of wild horses, landscapes, figures, sages, angels, warriors, boats, sports and musicians, to name but a few - all contributed to Young's purposeful lingua franca.
