August 18, 2021 (Atlanta, Georgia) -- The WADDI art gallery, 26 Waddell St NE ATL 30307, presents HERE&NOW, a group exhibition of US-based, immigrant artists, in collaboration with Welcoming America to celebrate their 10th annual 'Welcoming Week' in September. The show runs from Sep 16 - Oct 15 with an all-day opening for the public on Saturday, Sep 18 from 11am - 5pm.
The exhibition features Chinese-born, Clayton, Georgia based artist Xie Caomin, photographer Hector Amador and artist/activist Yehimi Cambrón, both from Mexico and locally based, and four English artists: Atantans Ruby Franklin and Ruth Franklin, Yorkshire-born/Chicago-based Michael Jackson and the Londoner-turned-New-Yorker, Kosmo Vinyl. The show was curated quickly by Shawn Vinson when he was contacted by the folks at Welcoming Week to inquire about hosting their annual celebration at The WADDI. The five artists from England are already on his gallery roster, and he was delighted that Xie, Yehimi and Hector all chose to exhibit too.
Since 2012, Welcoming Week has served as an annual campaign and celebration to showcase the growing movement of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all, including immigrants. This year's Welcoming Week is from September 10-19 and the theme is Belonging Begins with US, which is an existing national campaign that aims to foster a more welcoming nation (and world!) where everyone can belong.

The WADDI is a new art gallery in the heart of Inman Park. The 2,600 square foot space formerly housed the studios of Atlanta artists Fahamu Pecou and Eben Dunn. After a fire gutted the building in 2018, the WADDI was reborn as a gallery space with a large outdoor courtyard, managed by longtime Atlanta/Decatur gallerist Shawn Vinson.
