Jim Alexander, born in 1935, is an acclaimed American documentary photographer with a career spanning over five decades. He has focused on capturing Black culture and human rights issues, earning recognition as a photojournalist, teacher, activist, and entrepreneur.
Alexander began his photography journey in the U.S. Navy in 1952, later graduating from the New York Institute of Photography in 1968. His work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions and is included in prestigious collections such as the Smithsonian and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. Alexander has also taught photography at several institutions, including Yale University, and has been honored with inductions and residencies throughout his career.
